In this manner, is well known hyphenated?
Use a hyphen to join two or more words serving as a single adjective before a noun, but not when those two words come after a noun. The well-known author or the author is well known. Hyphenate compound numbers. (As per the above.)
Beside above, is well cared for hyphenated? Playing with the Viewer you will find that an adverb in "-ly" is not usually hyphenated onto the adjective, but "well" is. (But the Viewer breaks this "rule" with "well cared for".)
Hereof, should best known be hyphenated?
It seems to me we put a hyphen when the adverb in question (preceding the noun, of course) does not end in "-ly". So, "the best-known author", "the most widely read author".
What words are hyphenated?
Hyphens are used in many compound words to show that the component words have a combined meaning (e.g. a pick-me-up, mother-in-law, good-hearted) or that there is a relationship between the words that make up the compound: for example, rock-forming minerals are minerals that form rocks.
