Just so, do CDMA phones have SIM card slots?
That's not the case with CDMA. In the US, CDMA carriers use network-based white lists to verify their subscribers. All Sprint and Verizon phones now have SIM cards, but that isn't because of CDMA. The SIM cards are there for Sprint's and Verizon's 4G LTE networks, because the LTE standard also uses SIM cards.
Also, what is CDMA SIM card? GSM handsets came with a SIM card slot, while CDMA phones did not. In other words, CDMA is a handset-based standard, with a phone number linked to a particular device. If you wanted to upgrade to another phone, you would have to get in touch with the network carrier, de-activate the old device and activate the new one.
Correspondingly, why does CDMA phone need SIM card?
The GSM air interface standard, which uses SIM cards, was designed so that your phone number and other information that identifies you as you -- could be easily transferred from one phone to another by simply transferring the card. The CDMA standard was not designed so that your identity would be that mobile.
Is my phone CDMA or GSM?
Check your phone's "About" settings. If you see an MEID or an ESN category, your phone requires CDMA; if you see an IMEI category, your phone is GSM. If you see both (e.g., Verizon phones), your phone supports both CDMA and GSM, and may be either one.
