Hereof, can I cash a check written to my maiden name?
You can deposit in that bank account & usually no trouble because they have both records. If your marriage record does not show the maiden name and current name, then it is not going to help you much.
Likewise, can I cash a check with a different name? If the "different name" refers to you, (for example, an alias, maiden name or DBA name) then legally, you can cash it. However, most banks would not accept a check for other than the name on record. If the "different name" is another person, then they can endorse the check, and then write that it is payable to you.
Similarly, you may ask, do I have to order new checks when I change my name?
There is no need to order new checks on your US address change. You can still use the same checking or savings account check with old printed address. On the other hand, you should change your address in bank records. Your checks would not be dis-honored if you do not buy new paper checks.
Does it matter if your name is misspelled on a check?
When someone writes you a check with your name misspelled, it is not automatically void. The Uniform Commercial Code contains provisions that allow you to cash or deposit a check with misspellings, a wrong name and other identification errors.
